  9. 4.3.1 Crossbar Cable Connection for Direct Connections Between Chassis

4.3.1 Crossbar Cable Connection for Direct Connections Between Chassis

4.3.1 Crossbar Cable Connection for Direct Connections Between Chassis
Although the connection route varies depending on the BB configuration, the connection method is the same.
Each cable has an attached label showing the connection destination port. Connect the cable to the port corresponding to the label.
Since one port number is assigned to each pair of ports, connect crossbar cables in pairs.
For the port locations, see Figure 4-6, and for an example of the appearance of the label, see Figure 4-7.
Note that the given example assumes the 2BB configuration. For the connection order, cable routing diagram, and cable list for each configuration, see "Appendix B Cable Connection Information on Building Block Configurations."

  1. Check the labels of the crossbar cables, and bind the cables with hook-and-loop fastener strips.
    - Bind eight crossbar cables (optical) into one bundle with fastener strips.

    - Sort crossbar cables (electrical) by their connection to XBU#1 or XBU#0. At each of these destinations, bind four cables into one bundle with fastener strips.
Note - After connecting all the cables, store them in the rack. This procedure is described in "4.4 Storing Crossbar Cables." Do not perform the procedure now.

  1. Connect crossbar cables to the crossbar unit.
Connect the crossbar cables to the locations of crossbar unit ports shown on the label.
Hold the connector of the crossbar cable, and insert it straight into the opening. Do not hold the cable or its pull-tab part when inserting it.
Note - If you insert a connector with the pull-tab pulled, the connector may be damaged.
Note - There are three types of crossbar cable (optical). Connect crossbar cables of the same type to the same port numbers.
You can distinguish the type of crossbar cable by the pull-tab shape (A in Figure 4-8 or Figure 4-9).

  1. Connect the crossbar cables between XBU#1 of BB#00 and XBU#1 of BB#01.
    a. Connect the 0L ports (pink) of XBU#1.

    b. Connect the 0L ports (black) of XBU#1.

    c. Connect the 0R ports (light blue) of XBU#1.

    d. Connect the 0R ports (black) of XBU#1.
  1. Connect the crossbar cables between XBU#0 of BB#00 and XBU#0 of BB#01.
    a. Connect the 0L ports (pink) of XBU#0.

    b. Connect the 0L ports (black) of XBU#0.

    c. Connect the 0R ports (light blue) of XBU#0.

    d. Connect the 0R ports (black) of XBU#0.
  1. Confirm that the crossbar cables are correctly and firmly connected.
With the crossbar cables connected to their ports, push in each cable while holding the joint (A in Figure 4-10 or Figure 4-11) at the base of the crossbar cable connector.
Note - A loose crossbar cable connection may, on rare occasions, cause an error due to poor connection. After connecting a crossbar cable, push it in again so that it is tightly in place to prevent any improper connection. Do not hold only the cable when performing the work at this time. Otherwise, the cable may bend out of shape.
