Global Energy and Climate Security
Prospects for German – Japanese Cooperation
Energy and climate policy are on top of the international agenda and the upcoming Toyako G8 summit. The global dimension of climate change and energy security call for new structures of dialogue and cooperation on a truly global level. But multilateral cooperation and even a con-sensus for a post-Kyoto agreement won’t be enough. We will also need increasing cooperation on a bilateral level – especially among the technologically most advanced countries. The Friedrich-Ebert-Foundation, the Japanese-German Center Berlin and the Fujitsu Research Institute have therefore organized this conference.
The conference will show how the German, European and Japanese energy and climate policy developed over the last years. What areas for closer cooperation between Japan and Europe can be identified? Energy efficiency as well as emission certificate trading are widely consid-ered as main instruments to reduce emissions. How can we apply the most effective technolo-gies and business models to achieve advanced targets? These are the important questions to be answered in order to stimulate a new common approach to the most critical challenge of our future.
We welcome your participation.
