  3. Fujitsu Research Institute Special Conference (Date:February 17,2010 Venue:Keidanren Kaikan)

“Japan’s Challenges in the Global Green Age:
Growth Strategies towards Biodiversity and a Low-carbon Society”

Discussion on a new post-Kyoto international framework continues after the December 2009 COP15 (15th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change) agreement, and Nagoya will host COP10 (10th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity) in October 2010. Meanwhile, “Green New Deal” policies that promote employment and economic growth through aggressive investment in environmental industries are gaining momentum globally. With the goal of achieving both economic revitalization and environmental protection, international expectations are high for the green sector as a growth area. In Japan, fleshing out measures for achieving a 25% greenhouse gas reduction as well as cultivating and strengthening the environmental industry as a new source of international competitiveness are pressing issues.

There is no doubt that climate control and biodiversity conservation will have significant socioeconomic impact. Based on international discussion and business trends, this conference will facilitate debate and insights on industrial policies and corporate activity essential for new growth strategies in Japan.
