There is a growing social demand to restrict the use of asbesto, which cause mesothelioma or other life-threateninig disease.
Althoough it is prohibitted to use asbesto by the inductrial safety and health law in Japan now, the asbest is a material that has been used as a major construction material for a long period of time. therefore, it is required to report to the administrative body on the presense of the asbesto before demolish the buildings and plants, in some cases.

On 2006 Sep 1st, the revised law that prescribes the prevention against failure caused by the asbestos came into effect. In the revised law, the asbestos restriction has been reinforced; its content in specified material is restricted to 0.1% from 1%.
